Shirley Cameron studied sculpture at St Martins Art School and exhibited her sculpture. After an exhibition exclusion at her studio, Stockwell Depot, she started working in Performance Art, both as a solo artist and with Roland Miller, Evelyn Silver, Monica Ross, and with her daughters. She continued making objects for this performance work.

Her work was first shown in agricultural shows, colleges, festivals, shops, and was exhibited throughout the UK, in most of Europe including Poland and in Canada. Recently some of her art work from the 70s, 80s and 90s has been shown in exhibitions including, Women in Revolt; If Not Now, When? Women Sculptors; Acts of Creation: On Art and Motherhood; Lives Less Ordinary: Working Class Britain Re-seen and Unquiet Woman: Monica Ross, with a performance re-enactment by her daughters, Lois and Colette and Alice Ross. See www.ShirleyCameron.org for an extensive list of venues, work titles and collaborators.
